GEDEN THARPA MONASTERY

Tharpa Choling Monastery is one of the most tranquil experiences you can have at the top of the mountains .although the climb is a bit steep as you move up through the prayer flags, the cool gush of wind flowing across the valley and the fluttering of the prayer flags with occasional monks and tourists makes it a really off beat location to visit. The monastry has been under extension of infrastructure and this time we found the pending constructions having been made. At the top, the entire monstry stands upright right into the clouds with unparalleled view of the distant mountains, fog and peace lapping up the entire area. When we visited in May, there was a debate gong on between the different monks and it was really enjoyable to see s many of them together at one location .. Inside the huge prayer room, the magnificent Buddha is sublime and tranquil. Just sitting in the hall will calm your inner self, give you peace.the scenery is outright serene and unearthly ..

BUDDHA PADA CENTER

“In this dark age, illumination is indispensable. Especially self-illumination – the innate illumination that we all possess and that needs no outer source – is of utmost importance, now more than ever. And who else could so immaculately reveal, expound, explain and guide us to this treasure but the three Great Illuminators themselves – Drime Ozer Longchen Rabjam, Khyentse Ozer (Jigme Lingpa), and Trengpo Sherab Ozer. We at Buddha Pada are fortunate and proud to be the seat of these great Ozers. To this day, India remains a source of the world’s most profound wisdom, light and illumination. Indeed, just what we today call West Bengal has alone produced some of the greatest Buddhist masters ever to walk this earth. We in the 21st century cannot afford to lose our connection to this extraordinary tradition and spirit of past times.

GOURIPUR HOUSE, KALIMPONG

As a foreigner, it is disheartening to see that more than half of the house is occupied, and a new door has been installed on the ground floor, serving as someone's home. I am really worried that this historically significant building will be destroyed. I have heard that if an Indian occupies a government property for ten years, it becomes theirs. But I am concerned that they will not maintain it as they do not understand its value. Is there anyone who can help and contact the government? This is a good thing for the local people too, as if it becomes a tourist spot, the nearby residents can also earn some money. But without protection, as a foreigner, I came all the way here, bought a ticket, and only then saw the history.
